Many teachers in America, feel that they aren't valued enough, given the respect, wages or resources that they deserve. But the truth is, the teaching profession in America is not taken seriously. However, there are very passionate, hardworking teachers in America, who truly believe in the power of knowledge and education through learning.
I feel that if we respect the teaching profession and the power of education, we will develop a much more educated and successful America. Countries such as Japan and Finland, have proven how having the teaching profession taken seriously, can greatly impact the quality of education. Here is a list of hardworking, great, passionate teachers.
Best Language Arts Teacher
Carla Ciceran/ Ms Ciceran
Stroudsburg Junior High School
Subject: Honors American Literature 9th grade
She was by far, one of the best teachers I have ever had. Any student that has Ms Ciceran, can't admit that they haven't grown their knowledge and interpretation skills, in American Literature. She would always be staying after school, grading papers, almost every single day when everybody else went home. I remember how towards the end of the year, I was just going through my own personal struggles, that affected my academics in every subject, and in her class. She sent emails to my parents, especially a long one, explaining how she knew from the beginning of the year, that I had the ability to be in an Honors English class next year, and how she really wanted me to improve, and to not be in a college prep class. Throughout the year, I was always in Support/IEP and she never at all underestimated my ability. She just looked at the fact that I worked very hard, and gave Honors quality work. Although she was a very strict teacher, she was always very sympathetic and caring, with knowing I was struggling towards the end of the year. She really loved her job and cared about her students. Thanks, Ms Ciceran:)
Teaching Methods:
1.Lit circles: everyone must partake in this at least 4 times, otherwise you wouldn't get a good grade. We would sit around in a circle, and partake in discussion about the figurative meanings on the piece that we were assigned to read
2.Metacognitive journals: In depth thought on whatever piece we read. You could use quotes with pictures, or just write a journal piece. A lot of comments on metacognitive journals for every student
3.Projects: Making a poster on propaganda literature, quotes from Benjamin Franklin, etc..
