Whether you're experiencing an unseasonably snowy March, or some holiday flurries, snow days are undeniably one of the best gifts winter has to offer. However, these fun-filled, seemingly magical days are often last minute; you may only have hours to decide how you're going to spend your day. No need to panic, though! Here's your guide for the best way to spend your snow day.
1. Gather some sleds and some friends, and go sleigh riding! Although this one is a classic, and can be considered a no-brainer, somehow, less and less people go sleigh riding on their snow days. Sleigh riding is guaranteed to bring about winter fun. All that is needed is a hill, some sleds, and some friends to cheer you on—or laugh at you when you face-plant into the snow.
2. Make Snow Ice Cream! Ah, yes—the timeless winter treat, snow ice cream. Perhaps the most notable delicacy of the winter, yet so low-budget. All you'll need are 4-6 cups of fresh snow, one (1) cup of milk, 1/4 to 1/2 cups of sugar (a matter of preference), and one teaspoon of vanilla. Put half of your snow into in a large bowl, and then add your milk, sugar, and vanilla. Finally, add the rest of your snow, and brace yourself for a delicious snowy treat.
3. Paint the Snow—Although this snow day activity is less common, it's nonetheless really fun. You'll need red, blue, and yellow food coloring, as well as spray bottles (one for each color), and cold water. First, fill the spray bottles with cold water. Make sure that the water is cold, because hot or warm water could melt the snow. Add some food coloring to each of the bottles (enough to make the colors visible in the snow). When you're done, head outside and paint the town red—quite literally.
4. Catch Up On Much Needed Sleep—Take a break from waking up at the crack of dawn each morning. Snow days are a gift, but instead of wrapping paper, they're wrapped in a blanket; treasure them. Sleep as late as you can, because it's more than likely that you won't get to sleep in again until the weekend.
5. Read a Book— If you don't prefer to go outside on a snow day, or, like most of us, simply prefer to be immobile, curl up with your favorite book. Or, kill two “mocking”birds (get it?) with one stone and get ahead in a reading book for school; you'll be productive, but be relaxed at the same time—just make sure not to spoil the rest of the plot for your classmates.
Hopefully, you found this guide to the best ways to spend your snow day. What are you waiting for? Get started in these fun activities ASAP!
